I know it may be hard to convince you, but: Don’t kill the next spider you see in your home.
When people see spiders in their homes, their first reaction is often to squish the tiny arachnids. A lot of people are afraid of spiders, but immediately killing them may not be the best way to go about things since these creatures are far more important than most people know.
Harmless House Spiders
Part of the reason why so many people are afraid of spiders is because they assume that every “big” spider they encounter is something dangerous such as a brown recluse or a black widow, but according to Matt Bertone, an entomologist at North Carolina State University, most spiders you find in your home are either cobweb spiders or cellar spiders.
Natural Pest Control
You might think these spiders are creepy, but they actually eat many other household pests such as mosquitos, flies, cockroaches, and even other spiders. Killing spiders could actually put your home and family at risk for any diseases that these other pests might carry.
Don’t Kill – Relocate
We understand if you don’t want too many spiders in your home. Cobweb spiders leave their webs everywhere, and a lot of people are still creeped out by the very sight of anything with eight legs. If you must get rid of a spider you find in your home, you can always try to catch it and bring it outside. The easiest way to do this is to get the spider to crawl onto a piece of paper and cover it with a glass. You can then take the spider outside and let it go.
We know that a lot of people are creeped out by spiders or think they’re dangerous, but they do serve an important purpose in your home. These creatures catch things you don’t want in your home all without posing any threat to you. Take them outside if you really don’t want them in your home, but don’t kill them. They’re too helpful and harmless to deserve that.
Let us know what you think about this and pass this important information on to your friends and loved ones so that they don’t kill spiders either!
