Especially during the warmer months, fruit flies and gnats become one of our greatest enemies!
Fruits and flies are attracted to fruits and vegetables, and gnats to indoor plants and moist soil, but both species cause significant damage to plants and foods.
They proliferate quickly, but we have an even quicker homemade remedy to help you get rid of them! Avoid commercial products as they can be loaded with harmful chemicals, and instead, choose these simple solutions.
Take a cup or jar, fill it with one of the solutions below, and cover it with a plastic wrap. Poke many holes in it, and you will thus create a strap for the gnats and fruit flies.
You can also create a paper funnel trap. Just fold a piece of paper into a cone shape, with an inch wide opening, and fit it in the mouth of a glass jar. The tip should be about 2-inches away from the bottom of the jar.
Then, use some of the following:
Apple Cider Vinegar
To boost its properties, you should heat half a cup of apple cider vinegar. Then, add a few drops of liquid soap and mix well. Then, pour the mixture into the trap jar.
The flies and gnats will be attracted by the smell, but the liquid soap will destroy them. When the jar is full of dead bugs, rinse it, and repeat.
Lemon Scented Sprays
Mix 2 cups of hot water and 10-15 drops of lemongrass oil in a clean spray bottle and spray all over the areas where you notice these bugs. You can also mix 4 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of lemon scented liquid dish soap and use the solution as a spray for the plants infested with gnats.
Milk, Pepper, And Sugar
You should heat 2 cups of milk with 8 tablespoons of sugar and 4 tablespoons of ground pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, transfer the mixture to a shallow dish, and leave it in the needed area. As soon as the bugs get in the mixture, they will be instantly drowned.
Since they have a short life cycle, you will need a week to completely deter these insects. These natural remedies will help you quickly solve this issue and say goodbye to fruit flies and gnats!
