Strawberries are definitely ones of the most delicious and refreshing healthy desserts, especially in the summer! These nutritious fruits are rich in vitamins and support our health in numerous ways.
They are especially high in vitamin C, fiber, potassium, antioxidants, magnesium, and manganese, so they offer multiple health benefits.
Namely, strawberries are beneficial in the treatment of high blood pressure, gout, arthritis, heart diseases, improve eyesight, and support the function of the brain.
They also strengthen the immune system and prevent premature aging and some cancer types.
Due to all this, and their amazing taste, we all buy them in great amounts and keep them in the fridge, where they quickly get slimy and covered in mold.
Yet, an experienced farmer shared his secret which can significantly prolong the time you keep these fruits refrigerated!
All you need is:
- White vinegar
- A Colander or salad spinner
In a larger bowl, mix white vinegar and water in the ratio 1:5. Then, add the strawberries to soak for a few minutes. The vinegar will destroy bacteria and mold spores, which actually spoil them.
Next, dry the strawberries well to remove moisture. Place them on paper towels into a salad spinner or air-dry them in a colander, in order to avoid getting moldy. Finally, place them on a paper towel in the refrigerator.
The following tips will also help your strawberries last longer:
- Remove the stems of the strawberries just before eating them, not before it.
- Remove all spoiled strawberries from the bunch to prevent the mold from spreading on the others.
Now you can enjoy the mouthwatering strawberries longer!
