Ernestine Shepherd is the proof that you are never too late to do what you want. This woman is the oldest female bodybuilder in the world, and this iron-pumping grandma recently turned 81.
You might recognize this living legend from the meme circulating which shows two elderly ladies. The first one is standing up, looking happy and fit, and the other is constrained to a wheelchair.
The meme features this woman, who holds a record in the Guinness Book of World Records!
What’s even more interesting is that Ernestine, the octogenarian from Baltimore, didn’t start exercising until she was 56 years old.
Apparently, after the death of her sister from a brain aneurysm, Ernestine started neglecting her own health, so she developed high blood pressure.
This made her decide to avoid further complications and health issues, and take control of her own health and well-being, by developing healthy habits.
Today, she is on a calorie-controlled diet of chicken, boiled egg whites, vegetables, and lots of water. Moreover, she wakes up at 3 a.m. every morning and runs about 80 miles (130km) per week.
She believes that the true secret of success is to ‘never give up.’
