We all love having a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer in our bags. Commercial hand sanitizer can’t protect you from germs, because the alcohol evaporates within a few minutes, and you have to reapply it again. Plus, they’re packed with harsh chemicals which means that applying tons of the chilling liquid can affect your health.
Triclosan is one of the most dangerous ingredient contained in hand sanitizers. It’s often added to soaps, dish washing detergents, shaving gels, toothpastes, etc. it can cause severe health problems like hormone imbalances and even cancer. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that to thirds of all Americans have triclosan residues in their urine.
Commercial hand sanitizers expose the skin to 100 times more BPA, as shown in a study conducted by researchers at the University of Missouri. The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.
The good news is that you can use natural alternatives. Essential oils are super effective when it comes to using antiseptic cleansers. These fight bacteria, and provide strong anti-fungal and antibiotic potential.
Cinnamon essential oil is one of the most effective oils. It’s a natural antimicrobial and antibacterial product. Research has shown that by adding 10 drops of cinnamon essential oil to a liter of water you can kill six strains of non-O157 STEC within a day.
Tea tree essential oil is also a nice option, and it’s more versatile than commercial hand sanitizers. It’s a strong immune stimulant. This essential oil provides a strong antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. It destroys bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
